Supervision Policies
Certified Family Ratio Chart
Number/Ages of Children in Care and Number of Caregivers Required The number and ages of the children in care determine the number of caregivers that are required in a certified family (CF) program, see Table A. These ratios must be met at all times.
FOLLOWING RATIOS
The required caregiver/child ratios shall be met at all times.
This also means each group of children when divided. The ratio must be met when one group goes outside and one stays inside. One staff can not be outside with all of the children and one is inside alone. This is very important to watch the ages of children, especially the ones under 2 years.
Children shall at all times have the full attention of and be supervised by the required number of caregivers as the chart requires
Children shall be within sight and/or sound of a caregiver at all times
Cindy and her staff have the extra 20 clock hours of training specific to infant and toddler care above and beyond the original requirements.
MONITORING THE BATHROOM
Please NO TOYS, FOOD, OR BOOKS IN THE BATHROOM.
While inside: Staff will monitor bathroom use and make sure the children wash their hands and do not play in the bathroom. We teach them to wipe correctly but they still need help. Teach them to limit paper towels and dispose of them in the trash can, not the toilet. Baby wipes are available in the bathroom for adults if a bigger clean-up is needed, these do not go down the toilet.
When outside: Children must be escorted to the bathroom by staff when on the playground staff will stand in the doorway and monitor them until they are finished. The bathroom window is open to hear the child. Children cannot be sent into the bathroom alone or left in the building alone.
As children mature and are ready for school they may close the door leaving only a crack to begin teaching privacy.
Only one in the bathroom at a time. Nobody is watching while waiting.
Staff should NEVER be alone with a child behind a closed door!
When inside: Children are not left in any room unsupervised. The nursery may be supervised from the hall if the child is old enough to play safely.
If children are in a room the doors may not be closed even for sleeping children.
Children are not allowed past the double doors in the hall. unless an approved adult is present in the room with the door open at that time. Otherwise, please keep these doors closed while childcare children are present. For extra safety, there is a gate to not allow children in the studio without an adult.
“What is Squishy”
Squishy is a method of staff calling ALL children to get their attention. Cindy’s KIds uses it to help train children that I need them IMMEDIATELY. This is meant to be fun for children, but very serious. They are to come to the adult calling “ Squishy” right away. They sit and wait for all the children to arrive, Praise is given to those who come fast. Maybe even a special cracker or snack for those who listen only. When all have gathered we do a headcount in English and Spanish. Sometimes we will have something to tell children, such as addressing a behavior or safety concern. We might also provide a treat or snack, sing a song, or tell a story. Many different activities can be done. Adults must teach children to respond immediately. This is not a time for playing hide and seek or running away from grown-ups.
