Transportation
Only Cindy’s Kids approved staff may drive with the children in care. They must be 21 years old, and have a valid Oregon driver's license and insurance on file with Cindy’s Kids.
Cindy's Kids owns a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. The vehicle complies with all applicable state and local motor vehicle laws, and the van is in a safe operating condition. The vehicle will undergo an annual safety inspection by P & M Auto. Cindy's Kids is fully insured by Farmers Insurance.
Transportation may be used to drop off or pick up school-age children at school. Cindy’s Kids shall ensure and be responsible for the handoff-transition of responsibility/supervision of the school-aged children by making sure that children have adult supervision at the school. Cindy’s Kids' responsibility starts again when they return to my van or if walking when they reach my home again after school. There are several families where the children walk home together, for safety. If a walking daycare child does not arrive in a reasonable time, Cindy’s Kids will call the school, parents, and then police if necessary. Children will come back to daycare unless previous arrangements have been made in writing. Children will never be dropped off at home or elsewhere without an adult present.
Parents have given written permission for Cindy's Kids to transport children for additional activities, such as field trips using the van. Car seats are provided to ensure the children's safety, and they are suitable for each child's height and weight. The car seats are correctly installed and regularly inspected by the fire department for safety. They are only used in approved areas. The van can accommodate up to 5 car seats - two in the middle and three in the back bench seat. Emergency contact numbers are available in the van and on my Google Drive. Additionally, I always carry a fully stocked emergency kit in the van. Staff ratios must be maintained during transportation and field trips. Children will exit the van on the same side as the building they are entering, to ensure their safety.
No child should be left unattended, inside or outside a vehicle. Our trips are very local, so travel speed will not exceed 50 mph. We will stay together as a group.
We may also walk to Chevz, the neighborhood school at the end of Serra Court. The same rules apply: we need to stay together. If we walk, there will always be 2 adults with us for extra safety and assistance. At that time, we will take the "Go Bag" with the hand leashes.
We also used the Cherriot City Bus to provide an adventure experience for the children. Once again, there would be 2 adults present to meet the required ratios, and the children would have their "Go bag" with them. Parents would be informed of the plans in writing beforehand.
Field trips will only be available for older children who can follow rules, be respectful, be kind, and use the restroom independently. It is a goal for the younger children to work up to. Since I only take a few at a time, we often have to rotate events for simply summer outings.
